At least nine people were killed and twenty-nine others injured after an explosion ripped through a police station in Srinagar, in Indian-administered Kashmir, police authorities told Spanish agency EFE on condition of anonymity.

A senior officer said the detonation appeared to be accidental, adding that the force of the explosion scattered remains into residential neighborhoods more than 200 meters away.
The blast struck the Nowgam police station—Srinagar’s main law-enforcement hub and a key installation in the Jammu and Kashmir region. Security in the area has since been sharply reinforced as authorities open a full investigation into what caused the explosion.
The station had recently been involved in probing the militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), which Indian officials say operates domestically while maintaining a base in Pakistan.
Officials say the blast ranks among the most lethal incidents inside a government facility in the region in recent years and comes amid a sweeping security crackdown across Indian Kashmir.
The tragedy unfolds only days after a deadly attack in New Delhi, where a vehicle exploded near the Red Fort on Monday, claiming at least eight lives.
On Wednesday, security forces demolished the home of Umar Nabi, identified as the suspected driver of the vehicle that exploded in the capital.
Then, on Thursday, authorities carried out a large-scale raid across Kashmir, resulting in more than 600 arrests.
Tensions in South Asia have escalated this week following the New Delhi attack and another bombing on Tuesday in Islamabad, where at least twelve people were killed outside a courthouse in an attack claimed by a faction of the Pakistani Taliban.
